A New Pair of Shoes

Happy Friday!  Although I am not “working” per se I do still look forward to Fridays and the weekend.  I always enjoy the times when Jake and I can spend a full day together as opposed to a few hours in the evening during the week.  Most of those evenings are a little hectic these days trying to feed Ben, make dinner, bathe Ben, eat dinner, feed Ben again and put him to bed.  I should note that my husband helps out tremendously doing all of that!!  However, by the time we are done we are pretty exhausted.  If anyone has tips on how to simplify the evenings please share!!

About the new pair of shoes…the Russian Ballet of Orlando is performing “The Cinderalla Ballet” tonight at our church.  Jake and I had planned to go but I found out late this week that child care was not going to be provided so we have no babysitter (this is another reason why I really hate being so far away from family).  As part of the event, ticketholders are also supposed to bring a new pair of shoes to be donated to orphans and distressed children in South Africa.  Many of these children walk to school miles and miles everyday with no shoes.  As I looked into Ben’s closest this morning and noticed that he owns several pairs of shoes and is not even walking yet, I was reminded about how blessed we are.  So Ben and I drove to the church this afternoon and donated these shoes!  We said a special prayer that God will bless the life of the little boy or girl that wears them!!

13 Weeks

Ben is 13 weeks old today!  He weighs approximately 15 pounds and is 24 inches long.  He is sleeping 10 straight hours through the night now!!  It is so nice to get some good rest!  The past few mornings I have gone to get him out of his bed and found him in the middle of the crib turned sideways!  Click here for the video.  He usually looks up and gives me a wonderful toothless smile!  It is a great way to start the morning.  I would say that the morning is my most favorite time with him right now.  After I feed him we snuggle for a while and then when I lay him on his changing table he smiles and kicks his legs…it is so funny but can also make for a difficult time trying to change his diaper.  Afterwards he spends time watching and listening to his Razorback mobile spin around to the tune of the fight song.  Again, he loves to kick his legs and wave his arms.  It’s no wonder the boy has a big appetite…he gets plenty of exercise throughout the day!  Finally, before he goes down for his morning nap we read a book and pray for our friends and family together.  Our favorite book right now is called Gallop.  It is a scanimation book and he loves to watch the animals move!  Other cool things he is doing right now…pushing up on his arms to lift his head up during tummy time, playing with the three wooden bears on his bouncer and cooing the word “oh”!  Here’s his 13 week old picture!

A Day At The Beach

Greetings!  First and foremost let me welcome you to our site!  I’ve been talking about starting a blog for months now and it’s finally up and running.  Whew!  Sometimes getting started is the hardest part!

After church today, Jake and I decided it was time to take Ben on his first trip to the beach!  We loaded up the car and headed to New Smyrna.  Ben was quite the little trooper by snoozing most of the way there.  After several minutes on the road I realized that I had failed to pack his hat.  So after a stop by the only store on the way to the beach we were back on the road with the hat in tow.  After a quick application of sunscreen we were set to walk along the beach and take some pictures.  I think Ben really enjoyed the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.  However, he wasn’t into the bright sun so much.  After about 30 minutes the little guy was getting cranky.  So we packed everything back up and we were on the road headed home.  Our ride home was quite peaceful until Ben decided to start crying at the top of his lungs for the last 20 minutes of the drive.  The poor guy was tired and hungry!  The good news…he is sleeping peacefully now!
